Read the rules below, and the backstory before applying HERE to join the game.

Rules of Gameplay

  • Board of Governors
    • The rules for “Exiled! A Royal Family in Greenwich, Connecticut” shall be determined by majority vote of the Board of Governors.
  • Membership. Membership in roleplay for the game “Exiled! A Royal Family in Greenwich, Connecticut” shall be considered a privilege based on good behavior and respectable roleplay and not a right.
    • Observer.  Any resident of Second Life may view the roleplay of the game as long as follow the following rules:
      • Remain completely clothed (top, bottom, shoes)
      • Do not sit on furniture in the room being used in roleplay,
      • Do not speak in local chat, or attempt to engage roleplayers during the roleplay event.
    • Roleplay/Cast Member
      • To join the roleplay of Exiled!, applicant must be
      • 18+, age verified
      • have been a resident of Second Life for more than 60 days.
      • have the capacity to invest in role-appropriate avatar enhancements and wardrobe.
      • have read the Backstory and Cast of Characters on the website, and completed an application (and have that application approved by the BoG or its designee), and
      • may be asked to demonstrate their ability to write sufficient roleplay to a member of the Board of Governor’s or their designee.
    • Application for membership.  Besides demographic and historical information requested, you will be asked to determine whether you want to be one of the following characters:
      • Canonical character – one of the characters created by the head writer/showrunner (Cast of Characters on website).  These are members of the royal family, plus other key plays identified by the showrunner.
      • Ancillary character – characters created by the players themselves.  These would be members of the neighborhood, residents of Greenwich, surrounding areas, or even NYC.  Potential members should not be too extravagant in character creation: the creation of Hollywood movie stars, Presidents of the United States, or European royalty (people who would not interact with the main family on a daily basis) will not be approved for play.
      • Generally, a resident of Second Life should not play more than one character at a time.  This is not a hard rule, but would have to be approved by the Board of Governors.
    • End of membership.  No resident of Second Life may continue roleplay in Exiled! without reapplication if he or she has
      • Resigned,
      • Lost his or her Second Life account based on violated Terms of Service.
      • Abandoned roleplay without notice given to the scene supervisor more than twice, or
      • Been removed from role-play by a vote of the Board of Governors.  The Board of Governors reserve the right to remove any player from “Exiled!” without cause, but shall endeavor to reserve that authority when a player
        • Is generally engaging in disruptive behavior
        • Is not participating in Roleplay when present, or not making themselves available for roleplay
        • Graphic references of a sexual or violent nature off-script
        • Making threats against another member of roleplay
        • engage in “ageplay” of a sexual nature either portraying a minor, or with an avatar appearing to be a minor on campus.
    • The board of Governors shall make no rule restricting membership or role approval based on the following characteristics of the real life person behind the avatar:
      • Race
      • Religion
      • National origin
      • Gender or gender identity
      • Sexual Orientation
      • Handicap
      • Political identification
      • Military service
  • Roleplay
    • Canonical.
      • Roleplay that occurs during event times and follows the outline approved shall be considered canonical.
      • Roleplay that occurs outside of approved event times, does not have a pre-approved outline, or does not include pre-approved characters (or NPCs) shall only be considered canonical if the text and accompanying photographs are approved by the Board of Governors.  Such ad-hoc roleplay should have a separate notice of consent sent to the board of governors by each members engaged in the roleplay independently.
    • Non-canonical
      • All roleplay outside of official events shall be considered non-canonical and shall not interrupt or change the flow or direction of the story, with the exception of such ad-hoc roleplay that was submitted and approved by the Board of Governors (see III, A, 2).
    • Outlines.
      • Roleplay shall follow a loosely-prescribed script outlining the events/conversations/turns-in-story that must occur during the event.  For some events, a rehearsal may be scheduled.  Within the guidance of the scripted outline, characters have free-reign on how the events unfold and the conversations that take place.  The outlines are NOT scripts – but structures of story flow and revelation.
    • Restrictions
      • No god modding (performing actions without limits or boundaries, and including actions with or against another character without their expressed consent).
      • No meta-gaming (using information the character would not have in RL to effect in-world game play.  Ex: seeing someone on minimap, and TPing to that point to initiate RP)
